Antique Lamps

Antique lamps, like all antique options, were designs to suit both the needs and the capabilities of their time periods. An excellent example of this is the cassolette lamp. This first arose in France during the 1700s. It arose in response to issues of sanitation and hygiene.

During those times, the need for regular washing of the body and clothes weren't fully understood. In addition to this, homes were not designed to as ideally ventilate the smells coming from daily activities. The cassolette antique lamps were created to help with such undesirable aromas.

These antique lamps started out simply as vases designed to emit perfumes. They did this by burning particular paste recipes which were made up of such things as charcoal, grain musk, vanilla seeds, and ambergris. Eventually, the elegant shape of the vases was utilized in lamp designs. Today, such items generally do not also provide for perfuming needs.
